The Eastern Screech-Owl is one of the smallest owls found living in Florida.

Screech Owls use either nesting boxes or abandoned woodpecker holes in which to lay two to six eggs. The female incubates the eggs alone and even if disturbed she is unlikely to leave the nest. After hatching both parents care for the young.

This owl was spotted nesting in a dead cypress tree at Sandy Ridge.
