Coral Springs Fire Station 1 was originally located at the water treatment plant near Northwest 85th and Sample Road. A new station set for completion at 4550 Rock Island Road woud replace Station 1 and become Station 43, its Broward County designation, upon opening in 1988. When the new Station 43 opened, it was dedicated to former member William Buchanan. Based on its located and its status as the first fire station in the City, it bares the nickname “The Rock.”
